How To Make Strawberry Wine
If you haven’t had your first taste of homemade strawberry wine, you’re in for a treat. But, as with all great things, you must wait. Here’s how to make your first batch.
- 7 pounds fresh fresh really fresh strawberries
- 2 gallons boiling purified or natural spring water
- 1 lemon – juice only
after one week you’ll need to add
- 5 pounds sugar
Wash and hull the strawberries, then mash in a large earthenware bowl. Pour in the boiling water, add the lemon juice and stir continuously for two minutes. Cover this with a linen cloth. Place in a cool dark place. Stir each day for one week.
On day eight, strain your mixture through a double layer of cheesecloth into a large bowl, discarding the pulp and remaining residue. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved. Pour back into the newly cleaned earthenware bowl and repeat the daily stir for another week.
Now that the second week is over, it’s time to brew. Pour the strawberry liquid into one gallon glass jugs and loosely cork. Now let the magic begin. Store in a cool dark place for three months. At this time the wine should be finished with the fermentation process. (It will no longer be bubbling).
Pour the clear wine into individual bottles, cork and let age for a year or more before drinking this marvelous strawberry wine.
