Everyone is unique from one another. That is the basic characteristic of life. Or perhaps it is the very essence of life – uniqueness. Without uniqueness, life is not life. You are not you because everything would be us. Life would only be filled with more irony, more questions and more chaos. As our personality is unique from one another, our likes and dislikes are also very different. People’s personalities are like the wines of the world- all unique, all distinctive and all good.

Since we’re talking about wines and uniqueness, let us dwell deeper on the different wines which have their own taste, flavor and aroma. But before that, how are the wines of the world made? And what are their different uses?

Fermentation is mainly responsible for the existence of wines. It is the process by which grape juice is turned into an alcoholic beverage. Fermentation can not occur without the presence of yeasts. This is because the yeast is the one which breaks down the sugar found in the grape fruit. After the process of fermentation, you will have your alcoholic wine.

But of course, the different wines of the world are made from different sources. Although grapes are the common fruit used in wine making, other fruits such as berries and apples are also used. Collectively, they are known as fruit wines. However, you can call them by the type of fruit used in making the wine.

Still, fruits are not the only things that can be turned into wine. I am sure you have already heard of rice wine, barley wine and ginger wine. The first two are products which are very rich in starch. So naturally, the taste would be like that of a beer. On the other hand, ginger wine is one which is fortified with brandy. Each of these wines taste differently. And of course, it can be attributed to the source itself.

During the 4500 BC, it was believed that wine was first created in Europe. Since then, wine making has been continued and developed up until now. But the traditional ways of wine making was never changed. Or if so, it has undergone only very small changes. This justifies why wines are generally categorized into two: European Wines and Non European wines. The European wines are further classified according to the place in which it originated or was created. Similarly, non European wines are also further classified; however, the classification system used is quite different. Non European wines are mainly categorized according to its source which in most cases is a fruit.

Back then, wine connoisseurs only give their high regards to European wines. Probably because it was there that wine originated. But as time passed by, people outside Europe have learned to manufacture their own wine. Using the basics they learned from Europe and their own innovative ways. Nowadays, people care less about where the wine was manufactured. What matters today is that the wine reaches the standards that several wine connoisseurs have set.
